Mandrel Bent 2.5" and 3" aluminized or 409 stainless exhaust
« on: October 06, 2009, 03:58:44 AM »
I have been talking about these for a while now, and they are finally ready to sell. Full mandrel bent exhaust systems in 2.5 and 3" sizes.

The 2.5" systems are available in aluminized and 409 stainless, and go from the turbo all the way out the back of the car (no muffler). The 3" is available in 409 stainless only (for the time being) and start off with a 2.5" connection, expanding to 3" immediately to facilitate a full gasket seal to the turbo, as well as allowing for better access to the attachment nuts, eliminating the blown gaskets many have experienced on other systems due to thin flange contact and loose bolts/nuts. Both systems were designed from scratch, using experienced performance exhaust techs familiar with the needs of forced induction cars/trucks. These were created to be fully driveway installable, and even the greenest of shade-tree mechanics should be able to knock it out in an afternoon.

Here is a link to some of the first systems mounted...

(thanks to ScottyGibb for some of the pics)

Off-road pipe and flex section are included, and a magnaflow 3" catalytic converter can be had for an easy swap from street to strip set-up.

2.5" aluminized can be had for $295+shipping.

3" stainless pricing to follow.

Post or PM any questions.

JR

OH...did I mention they are USA MADE right here in Kansas

UPDATE 3" aluminized priced at $330+shipping.

for real nice job! thats one of the cleanest exhausts i have seen so far.

i just recently installed a XDM one i got thru some swapping and its the second one i have had over the years and it fits soooo horrible its not funny. your looks like such a simple install and it appears there would be no fitment problems.

and i want a SOUND CLIP of that 2.5 straight pipe, i bet that sounds nice.

I was just thinking I could use a 3" and I wasn't happy with the other options.  I will stay glued to this thread.

These ride with in 1" of the floor at the low spots. Any more tucked, and you will be hitting the floorboards.

When it gets warm, I will try to get a 3" sound-clip.

So this will bolt on to my 1987 conquest ??  I really dunno what to go with 2.5 or 3".  the car is stock so i would imagine 2.5 would be fine.

These are a direct bolt on. The only thing you will need is a muffler and converter (if you don't order one).

Most of my research has told me that the 2.5" systems are good for 250-275hp. If you plan to run anything larger than a 16g turbo, I would go with a 3" system. Either one is going to free up the exhaust flow dramatically over the old OEM pipes.

Finished installing the 3" turbo back yesterday. Hardest part was getting the old OEM crap off - I gave up trying to get the rusted bolts on the old cat off so I just dropped the whole exhaust.

The Star-Orion setup fit in quite nicely, only thing I ran into was the bolts for the test pipe/cat section were a bit short in my opinion, so I just used some longer ones I had on hand.

Here is a sound clip, with the system test fitted:

Took it to a muffler shop this morning to get the slip fittings welded up and my MagnaFlow 14419 muffler (its more like a resonator) and Monza Resonated tips fitted.

Up on the lift - the middle hanger fell off as I didn't tighten the bolt holding it on enough  so the middle is sagging a bit:

Finished:

Its still a bit loud for my taste, but the sound is a lot smoother. Will get a sound clip when I get home.

Best guess, $25-$35 depending on the weight of everything ordered. I have not had anything over $35 yet.
